This project was finished in July, 2017. It took nearly two months, so kind of a short-term project. What inspired me was not the typical “transgender” supporting or “both gender” fashion style, it was a kind of modern aesthetic trend based on more and more future technology application.
So far, my understanding of “Post-gender” is a futurism aesthetics, in which the genders features would tend to a cold, technical and biological genderless appearance. For example, imagine when the intelligence machines and advanced biotechnology widely applied into people’s life, our aesthetics towards people’s appearance and artworks could be influenced. And there is a big possibility that they might become colder, more industrial and scientifically biological. If gender features make us feel warm and emotional in an artwork, then the opposite way could be post-gender, which I consider it as one of the future trends.
In this project, Titanium was my main material. Using the universal milling machine to cut the texture on titanium pieces and electrolysis anodized titanium were two most important techniques I applied.
